Indachem represents Westfalia Separators in Ontario, manufacturers of Dewatering Centrifuges. Dewatering Centrifuges use the action of centrifugal force to separate components of a mixture having different densities and are used for sludge thickening and dewatering. Clarification or separation is accomplished in a horizontally rotating bowl. The product enters the dewatering centrifuge. As the bowl rotates, the solids quickly settle against the walls of the rotating bowl. A screw conveyor (scroll), rotating at a slightly higher speed than the bowl, moves the solids to the solids discharge while the liquid phase discharges by gravity or pressure through the liquid discharge. Some models incorporate Westfalia’s patented Vari-Pond® technology (automatic pond depth adjustment).

Indachem distributes Muddy River cylindrical oil water separators in Ontario known as a Vertical Gravity Separator (VGS), which uses gravity as its separating mechanism. Wastewater skimmed from a retention pit, allowing treatment of the most relevant fraction of the liquid, enters the oil water separator in Ontario and then flows up a series of continuous spiral oleophilic plates. Solids fall into a sludge retaining area in the VGS and free fat, oil, grease and hydrocarbon oil rise to the surface of the oil water separator. In Ontario, the low-density materials flow into a retaining tank to be disposed and the clean water discharges from an outlet at the side of the VGS.

Disinfection and dechlorination in water can be precisely controlled by Strantrol High Resolution Redox (HRR). The Strantrol technology is used to control the addition of chlorine, bromine, ozone, sulfur dioxide, sodium metabisulfite and sodium bisulfite for both municipal and industrial applications. Chlorine in water kills bacteria and viruses by stealing electrons. Some chlorine compounds are much more toxic than others and have higher electrical attraction. The more of the toxic forms of chlorine, the higher the attraction. The more abundant the organics, the weaker the attraction. The net attraction is measured as Oxidation Reduction Potential (Redox). Strantrol HRR controllers give you a direct, on-line measure of chlorine’s “work value” and respond to chlorine demand by adjusting the feed rate.
Siemens Water Technologies Stranco Products Strantrol ORP analyzers and controllers are designed for disinfection and dechlorination control in dirty water municipal and industrial applications. Using High Resolution Redox (HRR) technology and proprietary control algorithms, the Strantrol ORP analyzers and controllers are designed to accurately measure a stable ORP signal in the process water and to adjust the chemical feed to maintain a predetermined ORP setpoint. By maintaining the setpoint, the ORP analyzer and controller will ensure a consistent disinfective strength within the process water as well as a predictable level of chlorine residual for dechlorination applications. Both inline and submersible type ORP sensors are available.
Siemens Water Technologies Stranco Products Polyblend liquid, emulsion, and dry polymer makedown and feed systems have been designed to properly hydrate polymer molecules in the shortest time possible. All Polyblend systems provide two levels of mixing. First high shear mixing, which occurs when the polymer and water first come into contact and for only a short period of time, disperses the polymer in water. The smaller the polymer particle, the faster the time to full hydration. Following this, there is low shear mixing, which is designed to encourage the molecule to open up fully while minimizing polymer fracturing. The designers of the Polyblend have studied the chemistry behind polymer preparation and back up claims with viscosity measurements of prepared polymers.

Sludge dewatering is necessary to ensure that the Biosolids are utilized or disposed of in line with today's requirements. Highly efficient sludge dewatering is essential for drying, incineration, composting or dumping. Decanters from Westfalia Separator meet these requirements. High sludge dewatering efficiency guarantees a substantial reduction in sludge volume and consequently significant savings for hauling, tipping fees, and energy consumption during drying/incineration. Thickened and digested sludge with a solids content of 3-8% is pumped to the decanter. A second pump feeds polymer flocculent to the decanter. The optimally dewatered solids discharging from the decanter are sent for further disposal by means of mechanical conveyor. High-performance decanters from Westfalia Separator meet the requirements for maximum dewatering efficiency.
Regulatory restrictions have made waste activated sludge thickening necessary. Mechanical sludge thickening cuts capital costs substantially and results in up to 90% decrease in sludge volumes. Vari-Pond® ensures consistency in solids concentrations, even when feed characteristics, flow rates, and polymer dosages fluctuate. Advantages of mechanical sludge thickening include reduction of load on the digester, energy savings, improved digestion and higher gas yield due to longer solids retention times, and better dewaterability. In the past it was necessary to stop and modify decanters in order to achieve a constant discharge concentration. Vari-Pond® now allows this adjustment to be made while the machine is at full operating speed using a throttling disc that does not rotate.
Halogen Valve Systems are manufacturers of chlorine gas shutoff systems. Designed to mount on the valve on toxic gas containers, the Eclipse actuator will automatically close the valves in case of an emergency such as a gas leak. The chlorine gas shutoff systems will apply 40 to 50 ft-lbs of torque and will send signals to a remote location letting operators know that the valves have closed safely. Chlorine gas shutoff systems can be installed alone or as part of a safety system and can be part of an effective Risk Management Plan (RMP). There are requirements in British Columbia under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations while other provinces are adopting this technology as part of Best Management Practices.
Halogen Valve Systems are suppliers of chlorine gas detectors and detectors for other gases. The Jupiter Gas Detection Systems have superior sensor technology to provide accurate toxic and hazardous gas 4-20 mA output information. They provide one-person calibration on LED visual indicators and operate on 24 VDC power and are compact, strong, NEMA 4X construction. The chlorine gas detectors can have sensors mounted as far away as 9,000 feet from the display. Intrinsically safe design permit hot swapping of electrochemical sensors, simple installation with lost cost of ownership. The chlorine gas detectors transmits fault, calibration, and gas concentration levels to a remote display, computer, or other device such as an alarm, dispensing device or master controller.
Research completed by ADI has determined the SULFA-BIND® process is an efficient and cost effective method for hydrogen sulfide removal from biogas. A SULFA-BIND® filter can treat gas with an H2S concentration as high as 30,000 ppm, reducing it to less than 1 ppm. H2S-saturated SULFA-BIND® was also subjected to leachate testing with the results considered non-hazardous waste. Based on the performance evaluation and economic comparison with existing technologies, hydrogen sulfide removal using SULFA-BIND® filter media is a practical, viable option. SULFA-BIND® consists of an inorganic, natural material, calcined to increase hardness, porosity and surface area and coated with iron oxide. Hydrogen sulfide removal fixed-bed adsorber vessels ensures very low pressure loss.
