Today, disinfection and dechlorination in water can be precisely
controlled by High Resolution Redox ® (HRR), a result of
Siemens Water
Technologies Stranco Products research and
development in both probe and controls technology. In applications
worldwide, HRR technology is used to control the addition of
chlorine, bromine, ozone, sulfur dioxide, sodium metabisulfite and
sodium bisulfite for both municipal and industrial applications.
Chlorine in water kills bacteria and viruses by stealing electrons.
Some chlorine compounds are much more toxic than others, and have
higher electrical attraction. The more of the toxic forms of
chlorine, the higher the attraction. The more abundant the organics,
the weaker the attraction. The net attraction is measured as
Oxidation Reduction Potential (Redox). Strantrol HRR controllers
give you a direct, on-line measure of chlorine’s “work value” and
respond to chlorine demand by adjusting the feed rate. Strantrol
controllers accurately and reliably control disinfection, regardless
of the mix of chlorine compounds, pH, flow, temperature, and most
importantly, organic load. Strantrols that have replaced flowpacing
have routinely reduced chlorine use by 20-60%. With Strantrol
control, precisely as much chlorine as is needed is fed, and no
more. Second-by-second. Automatically. Exactly matching dosage to
demand minimizes the need for dechlorination, and a lot of the work
you had to do to stay in compliance.
